The Year of Strategic Refinement and Celebration

Get ready, Disney fans, because 2026 at Walt Disney World Resort is going to be bringing so much more to the table! This year isn't defined by just one single mega-project, but instead defined by a a ton of new updates and new experiences. It’s all about making sure our experiences are as vibrant and cutting-edge as possible for you.

We as fans get to see three massive themes shape the year: First, our most beloved characters are getting supposedly "jaw-dropping new technology" in their Audio-Animatronics figures, bringing their stories to life like never before. Second, we're welcoming amazing new and returning franchises—like The Muppets and Bluey—into the parks in some new immersive ways. And finally, we're anchoring the summer with high-capacity experiences tied to a monumental national moment: the 250th anniversary of the United States.

If you happen to be planning a trip in 2026, you may want to wait until late summer. This reasoning is because the biggest wave of excitement—including major ride reopenings and new shows—is hitting in the Spring and Summer of 2026. This means our parks will be filled with freshly refurbished attractions, so get ready to plan proactively to experience all of the incredible new magic!

The Frozen Ever After Enhancement

Prepare for an incredible Frozen glow-up! The beloved water journey in the Norway Pavilion, Frozen Ever After, is closing temporarily on January 26, 2026 , to prepare for something truly special. We're installing brand-new, advanced Audio-Animatronics figures for Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff!

We are delighted to confirm the attraction is set to reopen quickly in February 2026. While Olaf and Sven are staying as they are, this focused enhancement is designed to bring the human characters up to the latest standards. These new AAs are inspired by the incredible figures seen in the World of Frozen at Hong Kong Disneyland , meaning you can expect even more expressive faces, fluid movement, and a stunning, true-to-film character fidelity. Get ready to sail through Arendelle and experience the latest and greatest in Imagineering tech!

Celebrating America: The Debut of Soarin’ Across America

If you're visiting in the summer, get ready for a breathtaking new flight! Anchoring the season is the debut of the all-new film, Soarin’ Across America, scheduled to take off by Memorial Day 2026.

This high-flying adventure is a central part of "Disney Celebrates America," a company-wide initiative honoring the 250th anniversary of the United States. Instead of global destinations, the ride will whisk you away on a spectacular journey across the country's diverse landscapes and natural wonders. Repurposing this high-capacity attraction allows us to deliver a fresh, culturally significant centerpiece that perfectly captures the spirit of EPCOT and celebrates our nation's history during this huge anniversary year.

Return of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad after Extensive Refurbishment

Hold onto your hats, folks! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is scheduled to roar back to life in Spring 2026. This is no ordinary polish—it's been closed since early 2025 for what we call a "mountain-top to cavern-deep refurbishment".

The runaway mine train will still deliver the same chaotic, fast-paced thrills you love, but with exciting new layers of detail. Get ready to discover "new magic," including an expanded storyline that takes you through the mysterious, beautiful, yet perhaps menacing Rainbow Caverns deep in the heart of the mountain. By enhancing the ride’s original Western folklore, we are preserving this classic's legacy while making it fresh and appealing for every generation.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Reinvention

Also coordinating its return in Spring 2026 is the galactic battle at Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin! We're leveling up the game for all you Space Rangers out there.

To help you finally achieve that Galactic Hero rank, the attraction is getting major gameplay enhancements! This includes updated ride vehicles and a new show scene. Crucially, you'll be using new handheld blasters for better aim, and new video monitors mounted in your ride vehicle will provide real-time scoring updates. Get ready to blast those Zurg targets like a pro!

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Hollywood Studios is undergoing a hilarious and creative transformation in 2026, focusing on beloved characters and the magic of Disney animation.

Full-Throttle Muppet Mayhem: Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Reimagining

This is the news we've all been waiting for! The high-speed coaster on Sunset Boulevard is officially transforming into Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, set to open in Summer 2026. Don't worry, you can still rock out with Aerosmith through 2025 before the transition begins.

When it reopens, expect the same high-thrill coaster experience, but with the Electric Mayhem band leading the charge in a brand-new adventure packed with music and Muppet chaos. We are especially excited for the debut of Scooter (the Electric Mayhem’s stage manager) as an Audio-Animatronic figure—it’s the first time he’s been brought to life in this detailed format! This change ensures a more multi-generational, hilarious experience that only The Muppets can deliver.

The Magic of Disney Animation Revitalization

Animation Courtyard is getting a major creative overhaul with The Magic of Disney Animation exhibit, opening in the latter part of Summer 2026. It's your personal invitation into the creative world of Walt Disney Animation Studios!

The star of the show is "Off the Page!", an incredible new area where standard meet-and-greets become highly immersive photo moments. You can step into the Story department and meet Mulan posing next to an oversized storyboard panel, or venture into the Layout area where Rapunzel greets you in a beautiful setting that mimics the classic multiplane camera. It's a stunning way to connect with your favorite characters and celebrate the artistry that brings them to life.
